As we head into Mother's Day weekend, I want to take a moment to say thank you to all the proud strong women and dedicated mothers throughout our community who, through patient devotion and clear example, shape the world around us and enrich our lives each and every day.
Their unconditional love and support sustains us in our darkest hours while their limitless kindness and simple grace revives us and open our eyes to the wide world of possibilities that lay stretched before us.
It was my mother who gave me the strength to believe in myself and follow my heart and my conscience regardless of popular opinion. It was my mother-in-law who gave me the love due a son though not of her flesh. It was my wife, the mother of my children, who gave me the courage to dream big about the future and reach further than I ever imagined possible.
Each of us owes a debt of gratitude to our mothers that we can never repay. But once a year, we are encouraged to try.
This year, let me encourage you to take that opportunity and say thank you by inviting your mother to the Mother's Day Brunch at Historic Columbia, attend the Passport to Art: Because She's Special at the Columbia Museum of Art, sit together and enjoy Le Cafe Jazz at Finlay Park or take advantage of any number of cultural events happening across our city this weekend.
This Mother's Day, as One Columbia, let us say thank you together.
